Marcos ordered a grace period for E-bike ban

Philippines, Manila – In a move to facilitate a smoother transition and ensure ample dissemination of information, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and all local governments in Metro Manila to institute a grace period for e-bikes, e-trikes, and other affected vehicles navigating certain roads in the metropolitan area.

The president emphasized the necessity of providing sufficient time for the public to be well-informed about the ban being implemented on designated thoroughfares. This decision comes in response to recommendations received, affirming that the identified vehicles will continue to be prohibited under MMDA Regulation No. 24-022 series of 2024, specifically on selected main streets.

During the grace period, which entails a moratorium on ticketing, fines, and impounding of e-trikes, authorities aim to focus on educational efforts. President Marcos underscored the importance of properly guiding affected motorists regarding permissible routes and reinforcing awareness of the newly established regulations. These measures are envisioned to enhance safety and promote orderliness on the bustling streets of Metro Manila.

While the implementation of regulations is imperative to address traffic concerns and ensure public safety, the grace period underscores the government’s commitment to a pragmatic and educative approach. By providing this interim period, authorities seek to facilitate a smoother adjustment process for affected motorists, ultimately fostering a more compliant and informed community.

The directive from the president underscores a balanced approach, acknowledging the need for regulation while also recognizing the importance of effective communication and education in achieving long-term compliance and safety on Metro Manila’s roads.
